Offense ruled the day Thursday as Marshfield softball dropped a wild 24-17 non-league decision at Philomath. The Pirates put up 17 runs but couldn't keep pace with the Warriors' explosive attack in what became one of the season's highest-scoring contests.

Both teams combined for 41 runs in a game that featured plenty of offensive fireworks. Marshfield showed they could produce runs in bunches, crossing home plate 17 times, but defensive struggles proved costly against a potent Philomath lineup that found ways to answer every Pirates rally.

The loss drops Marshfield to 1-4 on the season as they continue to search for consistency in the early going. While the offensive output was encouraging, the Pirates will need to tighten things up defensively to compete in these high-scoring affairs.

Marshfield returns home for their next contest, looking to build on the positive offensive showing while shoring up the defensive side of the ball. The Pirates have shown they can score runs when needed.
