Tuesday's league opener proved challenging for Marshfield softball as the Pirates fell 18-6 on the road to Cottage Grove/Yoncalla. The Pirates managed six runs in the contest but couldn't match their hosts' offensive output in what became a difficult start to conference play.

Marshfield entered the matchup with a 2-11 overall record, looking to turn things around as league competition began. Despite the Pirates' efforts to generate scoring opportunities throughout the game, Cottage Grove/Yoncalla's consistent offensive pressure proved too much to overcome.

The loss drops Marshfield to 2-12 overall and 0-1 in conference play as they navigate the early portion of their league schedule. While Tuesday's result wasn't what the Pirates hoped for in their conference debut, the team has shown flashes of potential in previous outings this season.

Marshfield will look to regroup and refocus as they continue their spring campaign. The Pirates' next opportunity to earn their first league victory will come as conference play continues in the coming weeks.
